Daily Driver
Couple weeks ago, Sally and I renewed an activity we started back in Buffalo, NY when the kids were young and impressionable; we went to a Car Show.?Our son, Clark, and I especially enjoy even small shows like Cars and Coffee here in Kansas City.?For most of my life, I've been fascinated with cars but, honestly, know nothing about how they work.?When I see an old one, I'll usually get a certain feeling.?Maybe it reminds me of a simpler time in life or one our family had or what we drove in high school.?Car shows have been, and still are, cheap entertainment.?After having been to a few shows, I wonder which is more interesting; the cars or the eccentric owners who'll tell you the entire life story of an automobile as if it were their grandfather, the family hero of WWII!?
One of the shows we've been to twice now is the Ottawa (Kansas) car show where those gems manufactured before 1972 are celebrated.?On a rainy day two years ago there were about 1800 cars and this year the total exceeded 2000!?There really is something for everyone!
For me, this year's favorite was Carroll Shelby's 1966 Mustang GT 350.?You won't believe this, but following my parents' divorce in 1968, my stepdad showed up from Birmingham, Alabama in his very unlikely daily driver, one exactly like this he bought from Carroll Shelby!
Good article below regarding the supply chain problems that are likely to become a factor during holiday shopping this year.?If you're interested in the Shelby Mustang from 1966, they're going for about $275,000 even without supply chain shortcomings.
