? E.U. launches ‘illegal content’ investigation of Elon Musk’s X

The European Union has launched a formal investigation into Elon Musk's social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), focusing on the spread of illegal content under the Digital Services Act (DSA). This act mandates strict standards for large platforms due to their societal impact. The investigation, the first of its kind under the DSA, was initiated following increased scrutiny over the platform's handling of antisemitic content and misinformation, particularly after the Oct. 7 attack, which saw a significant rise in such content.

EU officials are examining potential violations that could lead to fines up to 6% of X's global revenue. X has responded by stating their commitment to compliance and their efforts in moderating content, including the removal or labeling of problematic posts and the implementation of crowdsourced fact checks. There is no set deadline for the conclusion of the EU's investigation.

?? IBM to buy Software AG's enterprise integration platforms for $2.3 bln

IBM announced its plan to acquire Software AG's enterprise integration platforms for 2.13 billion euros ($2.33 billion), aiming to enhance its artificial intelligence and hybrid cloud services. The deal includes Software AG's StreamSets and webMethods platforms, integral to its "Super Ipaas" business launched in October. These platforms are known for their application integration, API management, and data integration capabilities. The purchase will be made using IBM's available cash.

Software AG, primarily owned by private equity firm Silver Lake with a 93.3% stake following a months-long takeover, was valued at 2.6 billion euros ($2.84 billion). Christian Lucas, chairman of Software AG's supervisory board, expressed enthusiasm about merging the StreamSets and webMethods teams with IBM to innovate in hybrid cloud and AI solutions for enterprises. The transaction awaits regulatory approval and is expected to conclude in the second quarter of 2024. Concurrently, Silver Lake has proposed a delisting offer for Software AG at 32 euros ($34.96) per share, following its takeover earlier this year.

On Thursday, Amazon and Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos was guest of the Lex Fridman podcast.

Jeff was explaining how AI isn't even close to the humans, because human brains use only about 20 watts of power and need very little data to succeed. AI currently uses multiple kilowatts of power and needs billions of parameters to "learn" and "generate" a result.

They discussed the following topics:
