Daily Dose of Gratitude

Just a few weeks ago I was brushing my teeth and I felt very grateful that I am able to clean my teeth, every day, in clean running water in the privacy of my own bathroom.
I began to think that this simple thing that I take for granted would be a luxury for some. People in war torn countries, refugees and homeless people right here on the streets in my city, might not be able to clean their teeth every day.
This basic task, that I have taken for granted for so long, got me thinking that there is so much to be thankful for. Not just the big things like husband, children, family and health, but regular, everyday things; a precious moment with a child or a loved one, legs to walk, arms to hug, a shower, clean clothes, fresh food to eat, clean water to drink and safe streets.
Gratitude has had a snowball effect. I’m noticing the more grateful I am the more I see and appreciate the beauty in things. The soft morning light that filters through a window, the colours in the morning and evening sky, the beauty in plants and animals, the colour and texture of a feather, raindrops sparkling on a palm frond are just a few.
Appreciating the beauty that is everywhere makes me feel grateful, joyful and happy.
What are you grateful for and what brings you joy and happiness?
