Today, on Wednesday 16th October, fathers and children gathered in Westminster to call for an overhaul of the UK’s paternity leave policies. The Dad Shift campaign, supported by groups like Pregnant Then Screwed and Movember, delivered a letter—signed by over 3,000 British dads—to Labour leader and Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.
The campaign highlights the need to improve the UK’s current paternity leave offer, which is just two weeks at less than half the minimum wage, making it the least generous in Europe. The fathers were joined by 28 Labour MPs and gained significant public support with a recent poll showing 81% of the public in favour of giving fathers more paid paternity leave.
The Campaign in Action
At the event, the group gathered for a photo by the statue of George V before entering Parliament to meet the Secretary of State, hand-delivering their letter. The Dad Shift also released new data revealing 72% of British adults support Starmer's stance on family time, with 79% believing he should champion more paternity leave for other dads.

Organisations like Pregnant Then Screwed, the Fatherhood Institute, and Movember echoed the importance of longer, well-paid paternity leave for families, the economy, and fathers' mental health.
This movement marks a significant step toward levelling up paternity leave policies in the UK, with strong public support and a growing coalition of fathers, MPs, and advocacy groups rallying for change.

4 个月Hey - love this campaign and am totally on board with fairer leave for dads! I just want to drop a little linky in for Family Rights Group's #SameLoveSameLeave campaign. At the moment kinship carers, who take on the care of a child that is not their own, get NO paid leave to do so. That's mums, dads, aunts, uncles, grandads, cousins, brothers...despite the fact that they are stepping in and stepping up, often at a time of crisis. Please just keep this in your thoughts too? Thanks so much! https://frg.org.uk/policy-and-campaigns/kinship-care/same-love-same-leave/
