Dads and our ability to give our daughters a brighter future!

I believe most parents will do what it takes to give their children a better future and help them achieve their goals throughout life.? As I write this article, I can only hope that all my leadership training from my influential mentors, both male and female, will help provide a roadmap for my girls and other girls in this world.??

My hope is to provide a world where my daughters can thrive.? I can personally speak from experience how my female mentors have truly shaped me into the person I am today.? They have taught me how to coach, lead, communicate and develop in ways I may not have ever explored or would have tried. ? Unfortunately, today in the workplace the gender gap is real, and the progress that we’re making is very slow, and if we don’t speed things up, things are not going to be different for the next generation. Today, even if I tell my daughters they can be anything they want when they grow up, the truth is it will be harder for them, especially if they want to be in a leadership role. I was very fortunate in my career to have had such impactful female leaders in the early 2000s.? In fact, I never thought about a gender gap or questioned why they were in that position.? I had assumed they worked hard and earned it, which they did!? They were committed to helping people LOVE the work they did!

I am proud to be a feminist dad and believe in raising confident, empowered daughters who believe they can achieve anything. But the world is still profoundly unequal for women and girls, with workplaces built by men for men, massive gender pay gaps, and deeply-ingrained gender stereotypes.? This does continue to get better, but I challenge all other girl dads to step up and continue to create change for our daughters and others.??
