Dabbling in the world of the rich and powerful

OK, we must confess that it’s not us who dabbles in the world of the rich and powerful. However, Channel 28 most certainly do. They produce programmed security and communications equipment for the world’s super-yachts. Channel 28 have been on our radar (pun intended) for a number of years now and we look forward to continuing our relationship with them over many more years to come.

This week, Channel 28 will be in Amsterdam along with hundreds of their peers in the industry at the largest marine trade show in the world – METS. If you’re in the marine industry and are planning to visit the show, you’ll find Channel 28 on stand 11.304.

There are a total of 206 UK based companies exhibiting at the show which is testament to the strong marine industry we still have here in the UK. The list includes top brands you’ve probably heard of (even if your surname isn’t Abramovich) such as Henri Lloyd and Garmin.

If business is good (as in really good) and you’re thinking of buying a super-yacht, here are a few figures to take into consideration.

·     Most expensive yacht in the world: The History Supreme is worth $4.8 billion. It has a hull made from Solid gold and no, we’re not making it up.

·     Annual running costs: $400,000 per year in fuel, $350,000 per year in docking fees, $1.4 million on crew salaries (view more eye watering super yacht stats)

·     Something a little more ‘modest’: You can get a second hand, 20m Princess Yacht for £351,995.

If and when you’ve stumbled across some oil or find yourself heir to a small part of the Middle East, do be sure to get in contact with Channel 28 for all your communications and security needs. In the mean time, we’ve all got to start somewhere and these folding kayaks are pretty nifty if nothing else!

Is there an ROI for the solid gold hull Alasdair, like fewer barnacles and more miles per gallon, or is it litres per knot?

The History Supreme sounds tempting but the running costs are a little high............
