DaaS (Desktop as a Service) - Why Azure Virtual Desktop(AVD)?
I remember MS announced their preview of Windows Virtual Desktop (WVD) in year 2019. I started using DaaS, Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) this year and, certainly, I am in love with this service. Now I can access my virtual desktop from multiple devices, and definitely from anywhere.
I have done research and the data is really promising for this market. The global desktop-as-a-service (DaaS) market is estimated to be worth approximately USD 35 Billion by the end of 2031, by growing at a CAGR of ~24% over the forecast period, i.e., 2022 – 2031.
Why Virtual Desktop market is growing?
After going through the research data, I was able to makeout that across the globe government initiatives are there to improve IT infrastructure and certainly organizations are increasing IT spending, demand for cloud-based virtual services and adoption of cloud computing services, and growing trends of BYOD (bring-your-own-device) policy are few reasons for fueling this growth. If we look at past data, Global IT services spending was estimated to be over USD 1 Trillion in 2021, while, in 2020, cloud computing was estimated to have generated over USD 300 Billion in revenue.
The other change that I am already seeing is that many organizations are quickly moving beyond desktop-centric workspace to a multi-device anywhere, anytime infrastructure providing remote access across length to their empoyees. This is also helping the DaaS market to grow.

In my opinion, as a DaaS offering Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) (formerly known as Windows Virtual Desktop) is the highly cost-effective option for your workforce compared to scaling up a traditional virtual desktop environment in your on-prem data center.
The other major business driver in my opinion as a security professional is Privacy and Security of data . AVD allows organization to control apps and data while allowing employees to access virtual resources from their own devices.
