D365FO Feature to streamline naming conventions used in Project Operations

'Even with standard D365FO, be aware that this standard can be filled in quite differently'. It is one of the things you can here my say during trainings or project meetings. What I mean is that with the using of Feature Management each organization can decide which features to enable. And then, still using the standard D365FO, by configuration each customer environment can work or look different.
So lately I was searching for the 'Estimate' button on the 'All projects' form in an environment. And I couldn't find it anymore on the tab 'Manage':
For a second I was confused. Did I do somethin wrong? But I realized that I was on the right project, on the right tab. At that moment I started to walk to the buttons in the field group 'Process'. And then I found out that the button 'Revenue recognition' was available. This was new for me. So I checked the ControlName and there it was: 'CreateEstimateV2':

So apparently the label name was changed. In my previous machine (10.0.027) this wasn't the case. So I looked at feature management and indeed a new feature 'Update labels for revenue recognition related forms and processes in Project Operations' is available since August and is enabled in my environment:
The reason for this feature is that the used labels are streamlined with definitions used in Microsoft Project Operations: This feature streamlines some of the naming conventions used in Project Operations forms. Enabling this feature will change "estimates" term used in the forms related to revenue recognition to "revenue recognition".
I think this is fine. But be aware that the same 'All projects' form can have two different labels now, depending the enabling of this feature. It is a small change, but still it can confuse (and cost a lot of time) if you are not aware. And that's the moment when I say: 'Even with standard D365FO, be aware that this standard can be filled in quite differently.' :).

1 年Now that I tried it, I don't really like this new label, when working with Investment Projects there is no revenue, and hence no "Revenue Recognition" to deal with. While the old "Estimate" label was confusing, this new label is plain wrong, and my accountant users are really baffled why eliminating an investment project to a fixed asset is using a button named "Revenue Recognition"
Love this

2 年It's about time they changed the cryptic "estimate" to something more intuitive... let's hope the next step is to make the whole functionality look easier to use.
