D^2EPC receives the Standards + Innovation Awards

Paris Fokaides , on behalf of D2EPC , received the Standards + Innovation Awards 2023 in the category "research project" from CEN President, Stefano Calzolari , during the event EU knowledge valorisation stakeholder event: Making research results work for society hosted by the European Commission . D^2EPC was nominated by the Cyprus Organisation for Standardisation (CYS) .

D^2EPC research was focused on a next generation of dynamic Energy Performance Certificates (dEPC) for buildings, using sensors, data collection infrastructures and other sources of data to fed the operational energy performance assessments, considering indicators for human comfort and well-being. Calculations are based on a digital twin generated from the #BIM model of the building.

D^2EPC applied standards for calculations and assessment, and as a relevant source of the state of the art of industry regarding the assessment of the energy performance of buildings (EPB). UNE Asociación Espa?ola de Normalización proposed the creation of a permanent European standardization working group dealing with operational EPB: CEN/TC 371/WG 5. This CEN and CENELEC has Paris Fokaides (FRC) as Convenor and Aitor Aragón (UNE) as Secretariat, and is developing a new European standard: Energy Performance of Buildings. Operational rating. D^2EPC, coordinated by Centre for Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH) , was focused in standardization, having also Austrian Standards as a partner. The list of partners is available here.

D^2EPC closed last august. To continue the link between standardisation activities and research, CHRONICLE and SmartLivingEPC will participate in the development of this standard once D^2EPC.
