D A Y O N E! - G.Digital (1/5)

Day O N E.

When I say I didn't sleep a wink last night, I genuinely mean it. WIDE AWAKE. I even tried meditating at one point, but think i was doing it wrong… how the hell do people meditate?

To me failure isn’t an option, and I genuinely haven’t actually thought about not succeeding. I recently watched Denzel Washington's graduation speech (if you haven’t watched it, watch it NOW) i felt like he was talking directly to me. He spoke about not being afraid to ‘fail big and to dream big’, as well as ‘having the talent to succeed, but do you have the guts to fail’. I definitely have guts and it dawned on me that if you don’t take risks, then how boring is life? Life starts outside your comfort zone and all that…

So, the two tiny concerns i had before handing my notice in were:

  1. I’m going to be lonelyyyyy :(
  2. How the fu*k am i going to work my way around the laptop without the help from Corecom first line support, AKA the boys in the office. Ironically, I am dreadful when it comes to tech. It’s actually quite shocking (probably not something i should admit, but hey)

I actually haven’t been lonely at all. The reason I love my job is because I'm out and about all the time on meetings. If you’ve seen my launch video, you’ll note that i can’t FOR THE LIFE OF ME work ‘from home’... no chance, i eat everything and sit in my pyjamas all day, which just doesn’t sit well with me. I like getting dressed for work, if that makes sense?

I am now based full time at AvenueHQ / East Parade social. I remember looking around these offices a year ago and I was blown away. They are so gorgeous and modern and I could just see myself working there. They fit the G.Digital vibe perfectly and I can't wait to show you around. I have also made my first ‘work friend’ Savannah- she’s the general manager and i already love her. YAY... I have someone to talk about Love Island/ disastrous dates/ embarrassing drunken nights out with. No loneliness over here!

In terms of the tech support, shout out to Adam (the lovely man who works in Starbucks) he’s been helping me work my laptop and giving me little lessons. I’m getting there…

When deciding on my brand, I thankfully had a clear vision (i wish i could say the same about choosing the name, but i’ll get on to that later). Authenticity is key. Embracing diversity and being true to yourself are so so important. Key words/ phrases that spring to mind are:

  • Breaking the mould
  • Changing perceptions
  • Personable & genuine
  • Quality
  • Diverse
  • Innovative
  • Trendsetters
  • Professional
  • Modern
  • Flexible
  • Disruptors
  • Risque
  • Approachable

I want the perfect blend of personality and professionalism.

In order for us to stand out in a crowded market, we need to be different. While it’s (VERY) tempting to position ourselves in the middle, comfortably sat on that fence and trying to appeal to everyone, we need to be memorable. If that means not appealing to some people, scary as it may be.. we're ok with that!

I am competitive by nature and therefore want to own the BEST Recruitment Agency, so subsequently need to recruit the best recruiters. I won’t be recruiting shit loads of graduates who have no idea what they want to do with their lives in an attempt to save on costs. I’d rather have half the amount of employees but pay them double. QUALITY over quantity every day of the week.

I will headhunt the BEST recruiters in the area (so recruitment owners… watch out, i’ve already got my hit list… ;)).

DiGitalent, GoJi tech, Technolo-G, Project-G, DiGi- tech, LynskeyTech… are just some of the horrific name ideas we came up with (there is a list of 80). For those of you who have started a business and have a cool name… RESPECT! So many hours were spent trying to come up with a name/ brand. Shout out to my cousin Pete for his help… even though we didn’t end up going with ‘Techfast at Tiffany’s’ for my WIT event… haha.

I need to also take a quick moment to give my super talented friend Charlotte Waite (add her on LinkedIn) a quick shout out. She is a freelance designer and has really helped bring the G.Digital brand to life. She literally works all hours and is totally amazing. She is looking to build her portfolio, so get in touch (her rates are very competitive too!). Love you Charlie- Thank you so much.

So now the fun begins… I'm currently sat here on day one with ZERO clients. Although that is quite daunting, it’s also quite exciting. So if you’re someone who hires IT people…. Expect me to get in touch very soon. I mean ideally, you’re reading this and you’re thinking… yes, I like this girl and I'd like to support a small start up and you might actually APPROACH ME- (in fact please can you do that instead? ha). But in all seriousness, your support means the world to me. Thank you so so much.

I can’t wait to see what the future holds.

Lots of Love,

G x
