D-Day - Normandy Landings
This small article is written just to remember those who fought for the liberation of Europe from the nazi regime. It′s also to honor the memory of those who died in combat and thanking them for their efforts and their sacrifice for our freedom. On the 6th June 1944 (75 years ago) took place the Normandy Landings on D-Day under the code name "Operation Overlord".
"D-day: by the numbers 156,115: Allied troops who landed in Normandy 11,590: Total Allied aircraft to support the landings 6,939: Number of Allied naval vessels 11: Allied Nations in Operation Overlord - (U. S. Dept. of Defense, D-Day: The Beaches)" (source: National Geographic)
I want also to remember the work of the war photographer Robert Capa, the embedded photojournalist who lived the moments of the landing of american troops (at 6:30) at Omaha Beach (where many lives were lost), witnessed and registered them with his camera. His photos are today precious historical documents of one of the biggest military operations.
