Déjà vu

Déjà vu

I had a different newsletter in mind.

One around the familiar themes of AI and finance, on the new Zeta Economic Index that "uses generative AI to analyze trillions of behavioral signals, largely focusing on consumer activity, to score growth on both a broad level of health and a separate measure on stability."

Perhaps a story on AI and sustainability, where Google’s emissions climb 48% in five years, reportedly fueled by AI energy needs.

Or perhaps a story on how children's images are being scraped from the web and used for AI training, where their personal data is unprotected from misuse.

Even unlisted YouTube videos ...

And then I read the news on the record-breaking 'monster' Category 5 storm aka Hurricane Beryl. that is leaving a path of destruction. On the Caribbean country's Union Island, 90% of the houses have been severely damaged or destroyed, according to Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves.

"You hear a lot of talk, but you don't see much action."

When record-shattering is becoming a norm.

When all the warning signs have been flashing.

A far too familiar story that will get much worse.

Climate inaction.

Digital colonialism.

The smaller players against the big and powerful.

It's not a tech problem. But a uniquely human one.

I've been spending some time in Asia the past two weeks. I can't help but notice the images of logo soup I see at various places.

Picture taking by author at a retail POS

Wasn't tech supposed to make things a bit easier and ... less complicated?

We missed the memo.

In this week's One Vision Podcast ...

Homeownership is normally looked upon as a part of the American Dream. Unfortunately, reality often squeezes out many of those who don’t have access.

In this episode of One Vision — FinTech Fuse! Theo chats with Brendan Kennealey , Founder/CEO at NESTER , and part of the first cohort for CAFE (Center for Accelerating Financial Equity), on his quest to take some of the guesswork and stress out of the home buying and selling experience. Imagine a world where technology can be used to create a positive impact for LMI communities and uplift those who are underserved.?

Give this episode a listen and let us know what you think.

Great issue, Theodora Lau. Although there is news that we still have a lot of room for improvement in training AI models and data protection. However, my compliments.

The worse is the misuse of children’s presence on the net. hard to avoid if parents post all their family photos. We need to make more parents aware of this challenge!
