CZ, Part Two

CZ, Part Two

If you read the previous post on my prized CZ earrings, just wait; there’s more!

When I got home, I convinced myself there was no way those counterfeits were my beloved, prized diamond earrings.

I was determined to find the real ones, so I went on the hunt again— like a miner at Crater of Diamonds State Park. My earrings were out there (aka somewhere in the house), and I was going to find them.

To make a prolonged search short, I found the real ones, not just the CZ ones. I had locked them away for safekeeping. Part two of my CZ journey led to some deeper reflection.

  1. I sure jumped to some erroneous initial conclusions (First and foremost, being that they weren’t real to begin with).
  2. I immediately made assumptions without full due diligence (Thinking they weren’t real or someone HAD to have switched them out).
  3. For something that I valued so dearly once upon a time, my actions sure didn’t reflect it. Not only did I lose track of them in the house, I so easily mistook the fakes for the once prized possession.

Those earrings will, after all, become our daughter’s when she gets married in November – her true something old. Their reappearance serves as a reminder that if we value something (and not just material possessions), we need to take care of it.

It’s also a reminder that we should take the time to do our research, especially in times of uncertainty, rather than jumping to stupid conclusions (like I did in this earring saga). In a busy culture, it’s tempting to make quick assumptions, but this leads to unnecessary misunderstandings. Take the time to get the story (or the earrings) right.

In this story, not everything was Cubic Zirconia, but it would have been perfectly OK if it had been.

Absolutely! Taking the time to analyze situations carefully can lead to much better outcomes. What strategies do you find helpful in avoiding those rash conclusions?
