Meet Environmental Services Supervisor (and our recent GEM Award winner) April. ?? April recently greeted a visitor walking down one of our halls. When asked if she was doing okay, the woman burst into tears, saying she wanted to speak to a chaplain for herself and the patient she was visiting. Without hesitation, April stopped what she was doing, extended her arms and personally walked with the woman to find a chaplain before going back to her work. "It seemed like such an act of kindness is second nature for April," said her nominator. Small acts of kindness like this can go a long way—that's why we honor and recognize colleagues that go above and beyond for our patients and visitors. Part of ensuring patients have access to quality and safe care includes having honest and transparent conversations with members of our legislature about the state of health care in our Valley. Last month, our Director of DEI & Advocacy Helen Herrera traveled to Sacramento to sit down with both Luis Quinonez, Chief of Staff for Senator Anna Caballero (CA-14) and Mark Reeder, Leader of Health Care Staff for Senator Senator Shannon Grove (CA-12). During her time at the Capitol, Helen discussed both the challenges patients in our Valley face and opportunities to make health care more accessible.
