The name "Michaung" is derived from a Burmese word meaning "thunderstorm". Michaung was the second named storm of the 2023 North Indian Ocean cyclone season.

Cyclone Michaung, a swirling behemoth of wind and rain, lashed Chennai in December 2023, leaving behind a trail of waterlogged streets, wind-battered homes, and a city grappling with the aftermath. While the storm weakened, its impact on the Tamil Nadu capital remained, demanding resilience and community spirit.The scars of Michaung will take time to heal. The city faces the daunting task of cleaning up, repairing infrastructure, and rebuilding lives. But even as the waters recede, Chennai's resilience remains. The storm may have tested the city, but it also revealed its strength – a strength built on community, solidarity, and the unwavering spirit of its people.
