As a horse rider and runner, its paramount that I be seen, wearing as much fluorescent as possible - BE SEEN BE SAFE.
BUT a current trend for cyclist is not to be seen, yet they have an arrogance about them! I drove through Richmond Park yesterday only to see the idiotic attitude of these cyclists who have no respect for car drivers, they were treating the Rd as a race track and 90% of the cyclist were all in black with a pathetic flashing light! They were going over the speed limit of 20mph and had no respect for the deer's when they were crossing the Rd. I had a cyclist who thought he owned the Rd and was weaving in and out of the cars who were travelling at 20mph or less, he was in dark clothing - an accident waiting to happen! Get your fluorescent's out and be seen.

10 年This came up a lot when I was doing safety days at primary schools when at miller construction. The kids would not think of wearing hi vis vests to cycle in but all knew to wear one when horse riding. Excellent opportunity for local companies to engage with school kids re safety

10 年Hi Jules, agree with your comment, there are some a-holes out there on bikes, no doubt. But it cuts both ways, by example; we were out on a club ride on the country roads of Wiltshire only yesterday, well lit and hi-vis etc on a very cold, misty morning. We came cross several groups of horse riders, all of whom were friendly and thanked us for being aware of the animals as we either slowed down or stopped; amazing that less than 50% of those riders were wearing any form of hi-vis jacket or vests.....on narrow country lanes. So please, cyclists, horse riders and runners alike - be seen, be courteous and be aware of others using the roads.....and above all, have fun and stay safe!

10 年I must agree with Julia, Last May I was traveling one afternoon, stopped at a roundabout then set off. BANG did not see the chap on the mountain bike. he was OK a little shaken, however it could have been a lot worse? in my defense, (if any) he was all in black, black bike and sunglasses.
