Cyclists gear up for the Nedbank WPP Series finale set for Sunday
The last race of the 2024 Nedbank Windhoek Pedal Power Series - WPP 6, will be held on Sunday 1 September at Tony Rust Racing Track on the outskirts of Windhoek.
Each category will see riders cycle for 30 minutes plus one lap (sprint lap) in this year's criterion race format.
The criterion race (crit race) will see riders doing loops around the racetrack for 30 minutes. They will receive a bell on 10 minutes and 20 minutes for the following lap's hot spot sprint. Each race will start and finish before the start of the next group.
Over 120 riders are expected to partake in the race, with online registration set to close on Friday 30 August at 10h00. There will be no registration on the race day.
The registration fee is N$200.00, and the race is expected to start at 08h00.
Race organiser, Stefanus Feris, said it’s all systems go for the WPP 6, with preparations at an advanced stage, “We are happy with the preparations now. We expect over 120 riders to participate in the year's last Nedbank Windhoek Pedal Power race of 2024. With the race taking place at an existing racing track, our preparations are more logistical than anything else. We will have the emergency services on standby. It will be a family fun day with food and beverages available,†he said.

He added that they expect the race to be fun and competitive.
Reflecting on the ongoing competition amongst individuals and teams, Feris says for the men, the front runners are quite close between Cymot and Hollard Insurance, while in the individuals' rankings, there is quite a tough competition going on.
“The Hollard Ladies Team have quite a lead on their competitors. But anything can happen on a given day. The riders will be experiencing different racing terrain that they are not used to. I am sure the riders are excited as well because it is not what they usually do. It will be interesting to see how they adapt to it,†he said.
Nedbank Namibia Communications and Public Relations Manager, Selma Kaulinge extended heartfelt congratulations to the Windhoek Pedal Power Road Cycling Club saying their dedication and commitment to promoting the sport of cycling is commendable.
“As cyclists gear up for the sixth and final event this weekend, we wish them the very best and have no doubt it will be another resounding success. We are proud to continue our support in the races, which have become a cornerstone in the development of cycling talent in our country. To all the cyclists who have consistently turned up and given their best over the years, your passion and perseverance are the driving forces behind the growth of this sport. To the WPP team, thank you for the dedication in ensuring the races are well organised, †Kaulinge said.
