The Cycle of Trauma and the Custodians of Control

by Terri Proud 12/23/2024

Trauma has a profound impact on the human psyche, often leaving individuals trapped in cycles of unconscious behavior and unresolved pain. According to Dutch psychiatrist Bessel van der Kolk, trauma silences essential parts of the brain—including the speech center and the prefrontal cortex, which governs our ability to experience the present moment. When individuals relive their trauma, their capacity to think clearly or communicate effectively is severely impaired. This neurological shutdown not only isolates the individual but perpetuates patterns of unresolved pain, leaving people unable to fully heal or advocate for change.

If healing from trauma is so crucial to individual and societal well-being, why do governments and those in power fail to enact harsher laws to address the root causes of events like school shootings, rape, and violence? Why is there such resistance to creating systems that prioritize the healing and empowerment of those who suffer?

The Role of the "Custodians"

One possible answer lies in the nature of power and control. Billionaires and those often referred to as the "Custodians" of the world—the parasitic controllers of global systems—maintain their dominance by ensuring the masses remain in a state of disempowerment. Trauma, when left unhealed, keeps individuals and communities stuck in cycles of fear, helplessness, and reactive behavior. This psychological paralysis prevents collective action and critical awareness, allowing oppressive systems to persist unchecked.

Imagine a world where trauma is systematically addressed and healed. People would no longer be trapped in unconscious patterns or “stuck on the karmic wheel” of repeating unresolved pain. Healing would free individuals to think critically, communicate effectively, and envision a better future. Such empowerment poses a direct threat to the status quo, as it disrupts the very systems that the Custodians rely on to maintain their control.

Trauma and the Karmic Wheel

Unhealed trauma often leads to re-enactments, both individually and collectively. Whether it’s a survivor of abuse entering harmful relationships or a nation repeatedly facing cycles of violence, trauma creates a compulsion to replay the unresolved. This is not a conscious choice but rather the psyche’s attempt to bring what is buried into the light of awareness. However, without support and healing, these reenactments only deepen the wounds.

For example, consider the aftermath of school shootings. The cycle of trauma is perpetuated: survivors, families, and communities remain in states of fear and anger, while lawmakers fail to create meaningful reform. The same applies to systemic issues like sexual violence or brutality against marginalized communities. Instead of addressing root causes, systems prioritize punishment, denial, or avoidance, leaving the underlying trauma to fester.

Healing as a Revolutionary Act

Breaking free from this cycle requires a collective commitment to healing. Trauma-informed policies and practices could transform society by addressing the core issues that perpetuate violence and suffering. These might include:

Comprehensive Mental Health Support: Making trauma therapy accessible to all, especially survivors of violence, could prevent cycles of re-enactment and empower individuals to reclaim their agency.

Legislative Change: Enacting stricter laws to address root causes of violence—from gun control to comprehensive sexual violence prevention—would create safer environments and reduce the prevalence of trauma-inducing events.

The Custodians’ Resistance to Change

Why, then, do we not see these measures implemented on a large scale? Because a healed population is a liberated population. When people are no longer trapped in cycles of fear and pain, they are far more likely to question oppressive systems, demand accountability, and envision alternatives. The Custodians—those who thrive on inequality and disempowerment—stand to lose their control when the masses awaken to their own power.

A healed population is a liberated population. Healing, therefore, becomes a revolutionary act.

Healing, therefore, becomes a revolutionary act. It is a direct challenge to the systems that rely on trauma to sustain their dominance. By bringing language and awareness to the experiences that have kept individuals and communities bound, we can collectively step off the karmic wheel and into a future of empowerment and transformation.

A Call to Action

Healing the world starts with healing ourselves and our communities. It requires us to confront the uncomfortable truths about trauma and its role in perpetuating cycles of suffering. It demands that we question the systems that benefit from our pain and advocate for change on every level—personal, societal, and global.

The Custodians of control would have us believe that healing is impossible, that violence and oppression are inevitable. But this is a lie designed to maintain their grip on power. True liberation begins when we recognize the transformative power of healing and take bold steps to break the cycles of trauma that bind us.

Only then can we create a world where individuals are free to thrive, and collective consciousness can ascend beyond duality and division.
