CYBR Women | Meet Ruby Deb-Matharoo, Strategic Account Manager, EMEA

In partnership with our CYBR Women ERG, we’re spotlighting some of the amazing women at CyberArk. Today, we introduce Ruby Deb-Matharoo , Strategic Account Manager from EMEA.

From an early age, as one of the only girls in her group of playmates, Ruby noticed differences in how she was treated. “When I got to a certain age, it hit me,” she said. “I wasn’t allowed to stay out as late and there were different expectations for me. It was clear as day that it was because I was a girl. Luckily, I had strong women around me teaching me that equality is something I should always strive for”.

Ruby’s mother and grandmother were the strongest people she knew. “My grandmother was a powerhouse of a woman, carrying the load at home while my grandfather went to work,” said Ruby. “My mum, too; she went to work, had kids and went right back to work. I saw and heard about these two women, the power they held and how they handled difficult situations.” As a mother herself, Ruby instills these values in her daughter too, and emphasizes strong female role models... “Knowing my daughter has been alive to see a 'Queen' of England and England be crowned UEFA Women’s Euro champions in 2022 is amazing!”

Ruby’s journey into cybersecurity started in an unusual way. “After university, I fell into recruitment and spent 10 years at several companies hiring for business and management roles. In my last six years as a recruiter, I was headhunting in the cybersecurity industry.” Thanks to the strong relationships she forged, CyberArk offered Ruby a career path in sales. “It’s one of the best moves I have made in my career, joining a company where the culture supports me to be my authentic self.”

Applying lessons from her childhood and as a talent acquisition professional, Ruby has become a strong and confident account manager at CyberArk. When faced with a difficult situation, she always considers how her mother and grandmother would react. She said, “I take a moment and think, I need to handle this the way mum and Granny would, and not escalate things.” Ruby strives to maintain grace and composure at work – key ingredients to her success in this industry.

It’s important to Ruby that other women pursue careers in cybersecurity and recognize the value they can add. “I believe most women make decisions based on emotions and business sense, and that combination makes for success. The emotional part of a woman is a strength, not a weakness.” As a champion for women in cybersecurity, Ruby’s advice to the next generation is simple - “Hold your own, be knowledgeable about the industry and shock people with that. Knowledge is power, knowledge is confidence.”
