Cybertruck is a submarine

I've been a fan of Tesla for years, and bought in right after IPO. But my last article about Tesla was wrong. It assumed they would go the fuel cell route. If Mars cars are the ambition, fuel cells don't make sense. So apply the logic from that prior article to most non-Tesla zero-emissions vehicle development programs/companies. After listening to an excellent Arc Energy Institute podcast about Cybrtrk, I put some related thoughts into an email. https://www.arcenergyinstitute.com/cybertruck-debut-and-the-case-for-buying-local/

I'm repeating the main points here:

Elon mentioned that there will be a pressurized version of Cybertruck for Mars.

 The ideal Mars car needs:

A pressurized hull (exoskeleton and strong windows). Confirmed.

Can stack flat (biggest components; battery pack, stainless steel, glass, etc.) for launch and transport at minimum volume with easy final assembly on Mars. ~Confirmed.

Gas-tight seals that can handle >1 bar pressure difference, dust, and wide temperature swings. Assumed.

Almost no oxygen in Mars’ atmosphere so fuel cells, or internal combustion don’t make sense (but fully electric does). Confirmed.

Great off-road capacity because there are no roads (plus although gravity is less, inertia is the same). Confirmed.

Environmental Control and Life Support Systems for breathing. Assumed.

Materials choices that can stand huge temperature swings and remain tough (stainless steel). Confirmed.

Big battery for range and thermal control in very cold weather. Confirmed.

Heat radiators for sunny days in rarified atmosphere (stainless steel exoskeleton). ~Confirmed.

Ideal Mars car would benefit from these non-mandatory features:

Autonomous driving. ~ Confirmed.

Satellite communications systems. Assumed.

Onboard rescue vehicle(s) like electric ATV or dirt bikes. Confirmed. (imagine Mars aerial motorsports or ballet at only .38 gravity)

Large statistical database of performance and iteration on Earth (ideally proving and improving these systems while the program pays for itself). Confirmed.

Solar charging. Confirmed.

Mars car for Earth = Cybertruck. Confirmed.

If all of those design requirements are met, then the only additional ones required to make the same vehicle a submarine are relatively trivial:

Aquadynamic shape. Confirmed.

Bi-directional pressure hull and seals. Assumed.

Air compressor and ballast system (using tires?). Air compressor confirmed, ballast system assumed.

Steering yoke for up/down/left/right. Sure looks like a standard steering yoke instead of a steering wheel.

Propeller(s). Assumed.

Slightly boat-shaped for when at water surface. Confirmed.

So I bet we see a submarine option.

I also hope there’s a “cold gas thruster” option like they’ll offer for the new Roadster. This may or may not be combined with ECLSS tanks that can re-fill with air upon submarine surfacing.

Another reason I like Cybertruck: when full-self-driving comes alive and regulations follow the statistics, I'll be able to fall asleep in the back, laying fully down in the "truck bed", and wake up several hundred miles away. When I'm not using it, others can pay to sleep back there while my cybrtrk delivers them.

So Elon if someone forwards this to you, thank you for designing something so practical for Mars, and please strive to ensure that people can choose "submarine cybrtrk with cold gas thrusters" in the very first "upgrades and options" page.

I still want someone to build a 4-seat wide hydrogen fuel cell pick-up truck, much bigger than the Cybrtrk, that can be used to charge submarine cybertrucks from, but it probably won't be Tesla. I'm looking at you Nikola. Please re-configure some of the parts on your 1000 hp H2 fuel-cell big rig... 10 foot box length and crew cab option would be nice.

I still am very excited about Cybertruck.
