How important is your job?

You might think that you have a great job. Not necessarily the best job in the world, but a pretty meaningful job.

Well, according to the World Economic Forum:

Cybercrime and cyber insecurity is the greatest technological risk we face now and for at least the next 10 years.

These are just the top 10 risks.

Surprisingly: "use of weapons of mass destruction" is number 28. Here's the full list:

But with increased cybercrime, we are likely to see increased disruption in critical technology systems, which may affect food and water supplies, transport, financial systems, space, military, and communication systems.

Is cybercrime a weapon of mass destruction?

Well, that's not a new idea. But it's an important question.

Either way — it's good to get some perspective on the importance of your job. That doesn't mean the next time someone asks what you do for a living, you say,

"I'm saving the world."

That might be a bit much...

But it's something to think about next time things aren't going well with your boss, your team, or at your company. You're making a big impact in the future of tech, and it's making a real difference in the world.
