Cybersecurity needs to become a Primary issue
In spite of its priority in the minds of CEO's and CIO's, cybersecurity remains a "low-energy" issue for primary candidates on both sides of the aisle. If you look back over the past 10 years or so, it is easy to see the increasing damage and exposure looming from our collective national (cyber)-security apathy. Unless it involves our shared concerns over personal privacy, condemnations of prying nation-states, or feel-good notions of information sharing, there is precious little discussion or agreement about driving practical improvements in our highly vulnerable infrastructure.
I've written a piece for "The Hill" where I outline a single filament which illuminates this urgency. It is a quick recap of the evident and growing violability of our power infrastructure, from the generator destroying exercises of Aurora in 2007 to the recent destabilization of power delivery in the Ukraine, currently attributed to the intentional affects of malicious software.
Take a look at the article here: "Security as a Primary Issue", and if you are equally concerned, go get some of your contacts, candidates, or commentators to make some noise. The first step to making this better is to help people understand why it matters.
