CyberPeace Digest - May 2024

Dear Readers,

During the month of May we had the chance to reconnect with close partners at the RSA Conference and make new connections with like-minded organisations. To further our goal of building digital resilience for underserved organisations, partnerships are crucial.

We are very proud to announce the signature of a new partnership with the City of Geneva. As a hub for international organisations and nonprofits, Geneva has a particular cyber threat landscape. In our CyberPeace Analytical report “NGOs Serving Humanity at Risk: Cyberthreats Affecting International Geneva'' we observed a significant cybersecurity gap among NGOs in International Geneva: 41% of interviewed organisations reported they had experienced a cyberattack in the past three years. Through this new partnership we aim to strengthen digital resilience in International Geneva, read more about the initiative in this month’s newsletter.

CyberPeace Miners at Devoxx France

Last month we had the opportunity to showcase our CyberPeace Miners at the 12th edition of Devoxx France.

Our colleague Siegfried Ehret and our former intern Noah Bessoud gave a look behind the scenes of this unique education product. The CyberPeace Miners allow users to learn about strong passwords, VPN or Ransomware attacks through Minecraft. The two explain more about the aim behind the educational tool, sharing a look behind the idea of the project and detailing the conception of the Minecraft map and the blocks used. Discover what they had in mind going into the project and what ultimately worked out.?

The presentation is now on YouTube. While the presentation is held in French, there are automated English subtitles.

The Cyber School Initiative: Accessible Cybersecurity Training in a Digital Age

With our latest edition of the Cyber School completed, our colleague Alexis Alley spoke to participants and looked at the success rate of the students in a blog post.

The CyberPeace Institute teamed up with Microsoft to launch the Cyber School—an 8-week, fully virtual course aimed at upskilling and reskilling individuals in the field of cybersecurity, empowering participants with the knowledge they need to enter and thrive in this dynamic field.

?

We are happy to have seen a big diversity among the students with 152 women attending and 48 men. The success rate with 95% of students passing the final exam fills us with great pride and we are happy to hear how the Cyber School had an empowering effect on our participants:

I find the Cyber School to be very enlightening, eye-opening. It brings awareness to how prevalent technical skills are in any organisation. Considering the kind of nexus of IT, it was a peak moment for me that I had not paid attention to before.” - Thabo Dube, recent Governance graduate.
