Is Cyber Security in the worst shape its ever been in?

Friday morning I had some cyber security training booked. I'll be honest & my previous trainers from old workplaces will verify - I am a nightmare training. I get bored easily & despise just being talked at non stop. Add to that cyber security is not a subject that is in any way that interesting to me so its safe to say I wasn't exactly looking forward to it.

However, I figured Friday mornings are not a bad time to get bored and I knew I had to do it so I persisted with my pessimistic view of how I would feel after.

Just like much of my hairstyles from 1999-2009 - I couldn't have been more wrong - Surprisingly it was really interesting! Am I turning into a tech geek? Will I start watching star trek now? Who knows! But some facts are pretty hard to ignore :

• Only 36% of UK businesses have a Cyber Security Policy in place. Out of these only about 68% review them regularly which makes the other 32% of those policies potentially exposed to risks.
• Cyber attacks are the single fastest growing crime globally
• Cybersecurity Ventures predicts that cyber crime damages will cost the world ￡4787010000000.00 annually by 2021 – Look at all them 0's! That's 4.78 TRILLION POUNDS! Insane & exponentially more than the damage inflicted from natural disasters in a year, and more profitable than the global trade of all major illegal drugs combined. 
• Reported Cyber incidents on the UK's financial sector increased by over 1000% in 2018 compared to 2017.

There are a number of methods hackers have & a big concern among the experts are IOT devices - that's your smartphones, smartwatches, smart-TV, wearable technology etc. These have seen a massive increase in the B2B world and have their own security weaknesses that hackers will know and want to expose.
