Cyber Resilience in the Cloud Era

Cyber Resilience in the Cloud Era

In the latest episode of CXO Spice, I had the pleasure of hosting Michael Fasulo , Senior Director of Product Management at Commvault , for an insightful discussion on cyber resilience in the cloud-first era.

Here are the key highlights from this enlightening conversation:

Shifting from Continuous Threats to Continuous Business

Michael emphasized Commvault's vision of moving beyond merely bouncing back from cyber threats to enabling continuous business operations. This approach focuses on:

  • Predicting threats faster
  • Ensuring clean recoveries
  • Accelerating incident response times

?

AI-Powered Innovation in Cyber Resilience

Commvault is leveraging AI throughout its platform to enhance cyber resilience capabilities, including:

  • Early warning systems
  • Threat detection
  • Incident readiness
  • Rapid response capabilities

?

Unified Platform Approach

Michael highlighted the shift from "best of breed" to "best of platform" solutions. Commvault Cloud unifies all SaaS and software offerings into one platform, allowing for:

  • Holistic management and visibility through a single interface
  • Improved overall cyber resilience
  • Reduced total cost of ownership

?

Expanding the Ecosystem

Commvault is building an expanded ecosystem of partners and services to create a comprehensive environment for cloud-first enterprise resilience. Recent acquisitions, including Commvault's announcement of acquiring Clumio , further diversify their cyber resilience options for integrated hybrid environments.

?

Key Takeaways for Businesses

  1. Test, test, test: Leverage cloud elasticity to regularly test defenses, incident response, and recovery plans.
  2. Understand your risk landscape: Address data and infrastructure silos and manage user access and permissions effectively.
  3. Develop and enforce policies: Implement strong policies to maintain security posture after initial risk mitigation.
  4. Build muscle memory: Frequently test incident response plans to ensure teams can act confidently under pressure.

Looking Ahead: Embracing a Resilient Future

As we navigate the complexities of the cloud era, it's clear that cyber resilience is not just an IT priority—it's a critical business imperative. Michael Fasulo's insights remind us that fostering a proactive culture around cyber threats is essential for maintaining operational continuity and protecting valuable assets.

Action Steps for Leaders:

  • Invest in Training: Empower your teams with the knowledge and skills they need to respond effectively.
  • Cultivate Collaboration: Engage cross-functional teams in resilience planning to ensure a holistic approach.
  • Stay Informed: Keep abreast of emerging threats and evolving best practices to adapt your strategies accordingly.

As we close this episode of CXO Spice, remember that cyber resilience is a journey, not a destination. By embracing innovation and fostering a culture of preparedness, your organization can not only withstand challenges but thrive in an ever-changing landscape.

Thank you for being part of the CXO Spice community. I look forward to bringing you more valuable insights in future episodes. Until next time, stay resilient!

I attended Commvault Shift as an analyst as well, and I was really impressed, Helen Yu. Commvault have done an excellent job in terms of multi-cloud coverage and airgapping in the right places. I particularly liked the acquisitions of Appranix to facilitate Cloud Rewind, and also appealing to the software development cohort with acquisition of Clumio to give that versatile source control-esque capability over AWS S3 buckets. Nice summary!
