Cyber News from the Past Week.
1. A cyber attack on the International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg, Russia caused them to postpone a speech that was scheduled to be given by President Putin.
2. On June 19th, there were a number of false sirens sounded in Jerusalem and Eilat, Israel, seemingly caused by a cyber attack perpetrated by Iranian hackers.
3. The Strava sports and fitness app was found to include a backdoor vulnerability that allowed an unknown group to spy on Israeli military personnel.
4. The RansomHouse hacker group attacked the Shoprite Group, a large chain of supermarkets across southern Africa, in a ransomware attack last week.
5. On June 21, there was a widespread malfunction in CloudFlare’s CDN services, leading to outages on sites such as Monday.com, Discord, Medium, NordVPN, and many more. The outage was found to have been caused by an update that CloudFlare’s engineers deployed that day.?
WhatsApp Upgrades Privacy Features
WhatsApp has announced that it will soon add another option to the "last seen" setting. Until now the options were to choose between: everyone, my contacts, or no one. The upgrade will allow you to select specific contacts, which can help many users.
The Privacy Protection Authority has issued recommendations for the use of electric scooter applications
Applications for the use of electric scooters collect a lot of information about users, such as name, age, residential address, work address, means of payment, location and more. This information is personal and should be protected accordingly.
For this purpose, the Privacy Protection Authority has published a number of recommendations for the safe use of these applications.
