Nowhere to Hide: 2023 Threat Hunting Report from CrowdStrike
Based on an analysis of what they call interactive intrusions — where a threat actor was operating with hands-on-keyboard in a victim’s IT environment for the 12-month period ending June 30 — researchers found there was a 62 percent increase in attacks involving the abuse of valid accounts compared to the same period a year ago — that is, the attackers had valid credentials.
Only 14 percent of intrusions where valid accounts were used also involved a brute-force attack. Of the remaining 86 percent of intrusions involving a valid account, over half originated from a system external to the organization.

In July 2023, the Biden-Harris Administration announced the creation of the US Cyber Trust Mark, a cybersecurity labeling program for Internet of Things (IoT) devices to help consumers make informed purchases with security in mind. Proposed by Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel, the US Cyber Trust Mark aims to provide cybersecurity assurances for consumer IoT devices, from smart refrigerators to smart televisions, climate control systems, and fitness trackers. Although the program is still in its early stages, IoT experts already have predictions surrounding how this trust mark could be expanded and applied to a variety of products, including Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) devices.
Phishing Emails Generated by ChatGPT & Human Models Gained 81% Click Rates from Cyber Security News
Explosive growth in natural language processing, fueled by advances like GPT-4 and Claude, empowers human-like text generation and superhuman linguistic abilities.
In just one year, the model size and performance surged significantly, as the current scenario shows:
ChatGPT didn’t mention Harvard in the first test, leading to a lower rate. ChatGPT improved to 50% clicks in a different test version, while the V-Triad/ChatGPT combo achieved a score of 80%.
In the next phase, ChatGPT, Bard, Claude, and ChatLlama assessed the intent of Starbucks and legit marketing emails. LLMs evaluated human or AI composition, detected suspicious elements, and gave response advice.
Researchers highlighted the effectiveness of the LLMs in spotting suspicious emails, stressing their potential for broad use without security data training. That’s why cybersecurity analysts affirmed that the LLMs are powerful tools.
Federal board investigating Microsoft email hacks by Chinese group from SC Magazine
Recent Chinese state-sponsored hacking of Microsoft email users, including leading U.S. officials, will be the focus of a review by the Department of Homeland Security’s Cyber Safety Review Board (CSRB).
Microsoft faced strong criticism last month after it revealed a hacking group had acquired and used a private encryption key to forge authentication tokens to access the cloud-based email accounts of more than 25 organizations.
