One of Europe's most iconic clubs headline this week's round-up. Four-time European champions Ajax sacked Maurice Steijn with the team lying second from bottom of the Dutch Eredivisie, a whopping 22 points behind leaders PSV Eindhoven. The change didn't stop them losing a sixth game in nine on Thursday night, away at Brighton in the Europa League. Serie A team Udinese also sacked their manager this week, replacing Andrea Sottil with their former boss Gabriele Cioffi. The team are winless from their first nine league games of the season, and sit third from bottom. At the wrong end of the Saudi Pro League, meanwhile, second-bottom Al-Hazem sacked Filipe Gouveia and replaced him with the Uruguayan José Daniel Carre?o. This came two days after mid-table Al-Shabab confirmed former Liverpool midfielder Igor Biscan as their new manager.
More departures in the Football League this week, with?League One Bristol Rovers sacking Joey Barton after more than two and a half years. One of Barton's predecessors at Rovers, Ben Garner, was dismissed by League Two strugglers Colchester. Matthew Etherington, who lasted 32 days in his only previous head-coach role at Crawley, takes charge on an interim basis. In academy news, Steve Torpey has left Manchester City after a nine-year stay, to become academy director at Brentford. Fin Lynch (above) and Jordan Moore have been given joint responsibility for the Under-15 to Under-18 age groups at Sunderland. Finally, Sam Astley is another departure from Manchester City, to take on the role of head of first-team analysis at Nottingham Forest.
