Only a few months?after guiding?Crawley?to an 8-1 playoff demolition of?MK Dons,?Scott Lindsey?has been appointed by the club whose elimination he masterminded (see his Masterclass?here).?First-team coaches Jamie Day and Carl Laraman, as well as goalkeeping coach Steve Hale, have also made the move from Crawley. After one draw?and five defeats from their first six?Championship?games this season,?Cardiff City?fired?Turkish?manager Erol Bulut this week. Former?Watford?coach?Omer Riza – who joined Bulut’s staff in the summer – has been placed in interim charge while Cardiff consider a long-term replacement. Elsewhere in the EFL, it’s one in and one out at?Sheffield Wednesday, with?Andy Parslow?joining as set-piece coach, while?coach-analyst?Niklas Lanwehr is heading back to?Germany. And at?Wigan Athletic, former?Republic of Irelandcoach Glenn Whelan has joined?Shaun Maloney’s staff as a first-team coach.
With World Cup qualifiers looming, Football Australia moved quickly to name Tony Popovic as new head-coach of the men’s national team. The former Melbourne Victory manager and?Crystal Palace?assistant succeeds?Graham Arnold, who stepped down last week. Meanwhile, former?US men’s team?coach Bob Bradley?has left his position as head coach of Norwegian side Stabaek, by mutual consent. In academy news,?Duncan Fearnhead has moved on?from?Accrington Stanley?to become academy manager at?Southampton.?Tom Sturdy has been promoted within the club?to head of academy performance, while?Matthew Etherington joins from Colchester United as under-21s assistant to assist?Simon Rusk. At?Newcastle United,?Diarmuid O’Carroll has been appointed as Under-21s lead coach, having been first-team assistant at?Scottish Premiership?side?St Mirren. Also?in Scotland’s top flight,?Steven Naismith was sacked as Hearts head coach last Sunday, following eight straight losses. His assistants?Frankie McAvoy and Gordon Forrest have also left the club, with?Liam Fox stepping?up from?his role as Hearts B-team head coach to become interim manager.?The BBC report that?“Jamestown Analytics -?Brighton & Hove Albion?owner Tony Bloom’s company - will help assess potential candidates as Hearts draw up a shortlist.”
