We start this week's coaching round-up?in?Israel,?where?Robbie Keane has taken his first steps into management as Maccabi Tel Aviv?head coach. The Israeli giants parted company with former?Middlesbrough ?manager?Aitor Karanka ?earlier this week. Another former Liverpool striker in a new job is?Robbie Fowler , who has joined the growing hordes decamping to Saudi Arabia as manager of Al-Qadsiah in the Saudi second tier.
A busy week on mainland Europe?saw La Liga sides Celta Vigo and Rayo Vallecano both appoint new head coaches. Celta confirmed that?Rafa Benítez had taken charge – his first role since being sacked by?Everton ?in January 2022 – while Vallecano have appointed former Elche manager Francisco to replace?Bournemouth-bound?Andoni Iraola . In Italy, after their relegation to Serie B, Sampdoria have named Andrea Pirlo as?their new head coach; further west, French giants Marseille have hired?former?Valencia ?and Villarreal manager Marcelino. Meanwhile, in Portugal, GD Chaves confirmed the appointment of former Reading manager?José Gomes ?as?their new head coach.
In the Premier League,?Crystal Palace ?have agreed terms with?Roy Hodgson ?for him to remain in charge of their first team.?Brighton ?confirmed that former player?I?igo Calderón had rejoined the club to become their new men’s Under-18 head coach, while former Australia captain?Mile Jedinak has?joined his compatriot?Ange Postecoglou ’s coaching staff at Tottenham.
In the English Championship,?Swansea ?confirmed the arrival of Michael Duff as their new head coach from Barnsley. In League One, Shrewsbury Town have appointed?former Walsall manager Matt Taylor ?as their new head coach, while Reading confirmed Rubén Selles as theirs. Elsewhere,?Stoke City announced that club legend Ryan Shawcross had rejoined the club as an Under-18s academy coach.
Further afield, finally,?Inter Miami have confirmed the appoint of former?Barcelona , Argentina and Mexico manager?Tata Martino ?as their new head coach –?his arrival coincides with that of compatriot?Lionel Messi .
