CV's Weekly Coaching News
We start this week in the Premier League,?where following?confirmation of their relegation?Southampton?announced that Rubén Sellés would be leaving the club after their final league game against Liverpool. The favourite to?replace Sellés is current?Swansea City?manager?Russell Martin, who according to some?reports has all but signed a three-year contract. The former?MK Dons?boss and?Norwich?defender would leave Swansea after two seasons in charge, having most recently led them to 10th?in the Championship.
Elsewhere in the English Football League,?League Two club?Walsall?have named their former player and assistant coach Mat Sadler as their new head coach. Following their relegation to League One,?Blackpool?announced the reappointment of Neil Critchley as their head coach. Critchley previously coached the club between 2020 and 2022, during which time he guided?them into the Championship via the League One playoffs.?Luton Town?confirmed the arrival of James Mooney as their new operations manager, after he left a similar position at Forest Green, while?in the Women’s Super League?Manchester City?manager Gareth Taylor is set to sign a one-year extension.
A surprising few days in the Eredivisie?saw Ruud van Nistelrooy step down from his position as head coach of PSV with immediate affect, citing “not enough?support within the clubâ€. Van Nistelrooy’s resignation means he won’t be in the dugout for their final game of the season against AZ Alkmaar, with assistant coach Fred Rutten taking?charge. Meanwhile, despite being heavily linked to the vacant?Tottenham Hotspur?job, Feyenoord head coach?Arne Slot?confirmed he would be staying at the Eredivisie champions. He?led them to their first league title since 2017 earlier this month.
Updates from elsewhere in Europe?include the news that? Will Still?is set to remain in charge of Ligue 1 side?Stade de Reims?next season and that, despite a 10-point deduction effectively killing?their hopes of Champions League next season, Juventus will still be managed by?Max?Allegri. In Turkey, finally, legendary Italian midfielder Andrea Pirlo was sacked as head coach of Fatih Karagümrük with the team currently languishing in mid-table in the Turkish Süper Lig.
