We'll lead the conversation, comparing all the stackrank and reviewing key insights together as a community. ?? Weekly learning
Last night’s Innovation Bay event at SXSW, Andrew Spykes, one of the early backers of Canva, delivered an amazing speech on 'success obsession' and burnout. His words resonated deeply with everyone, and really hit home for me.
I've experienced burnout on two occasions, to the extent that even getting out of bed seemed like a huge task. Andrew's speech served as a powerful reminder that in times of struggle, there is an abundance of support available from willing and capable individuals.
In the past, during challenging periods of work, I tended to bottle up my concerns. However, I've recently adopted a different approach. Instead of internalising my struggles, I've reached out to others with vulnerability, seeking their assistance. This change in perspective has afforded me the space needed to make more informed decisions and gain clarity.
This newfound clarity has reinforced my belief in the essence of Community VC. It has underscored the importance of a community-driven approach, as opposed to a me-driven one. As a testament to this commitment, we conducted a poll this Monday and leveraged our network to seek assistance with Due Diligence and insights into Xailient.
The response has been overwhelming, with over 20 individuals stepping forward to offer their expertise in AI, Edge computing, cameras, hardware, PAAS, and investing. It's so exciting to witness such enthusiastic engagement within our community.
As always, an amazing event hosted by Innovation Bay!

? VALUE ADDS?
?? Experienced Investor Certificate (EIC)
Not all of us can invest in every deal type globally and that's because we don't all have $2.5m in net assets or have earned $250k/pa for the last 3 years.
Some of us however love venture and know lots about it. If that sounds like you, let me know and I can hook you up with an (EIC) form that allows you (if you pass the test) to invest in all kinds of deals (including through syndicates).
??Example carry calculator
Since posting opportunities for accessing some of the investment community roles through Carry, I've had a number of questions come through about how to calculate it.
Please find an example calculator here.
?? Venture portfolio approach
Often people think Venture is uber-risky or out of their depth. It's not true, anyone can do it - you just need a model to get you going. Check out the Venture portfolio model attached - and reach out if you need more context!
At the Community VC, we believe investing should be accessible to everyone, not just those in the know. We believe everyone deserves the opportunity to invest and contribute to vetted ventures that move the world forward.
