CV Tips

Our clients prioritise three main qualities in their candidates: Personality, Experience, and Enthusiasm to work for their company. While being fully qualified is essential, demonstrating how you fit into the culture is equally important. Our clients prioritise personality and passion for the job as much as a candidate's qualifications.

Your CV and cover letter serve as a crucial first impression to hiring managers and recruiters, ultimately determining whether you secure an interview or not in your job search.

Before we go into this more, we want to stress the importance of a robust CV template. A presentable template is often the difference between you securing an interview and landing the job. There are numerous free resources available online for this purpose. Both Canva and Google Docs offer free templates with varying colours/layouts. Furthermore, for a small fee, there are templates available on Resume.com but we feel it’s an excellent tool to help you with your CV layout.

We have some valuable tips for enhancing your CV:

Elevator Pitch: Craft a succinct bio section summarising your professional experience in three to four bullet points. Clearly articulate why you are the ideal candidate for the job, highlighting your key skills, accomplishments, and career objectives.

Keywords: Incorporate relevant industry-specific keywords from job descriptions to optimise your CV's visibility to applicant tracking systems and hiring managers. Tailoring your CV for each application by incorporating specific keywords can significantly increase your chances of getting noticed.

Personal Information: Ensure your CV includes essential details such as your full name, email address, phone number, and a link to your LinkedIn profile or Indeed page. This information should be clearly presented at the top of your CV.

Relevant Experience: Present your work experience in reverse chronological order, prioritising roles that are most pertinent to the job you are applying for. Focus on quantifiable achievements rather than merely listing duties, demonstrating the impact you have made in previous roles.

Skills: Include a comprehensive range of skills, encompassing both technical proficiencies and soft skills that are relevant to the position you are seeking. Highlighting your transferable skills and abilities can demonstrate your suitability for the role, even if your previous experience may not directly align with the job requirements.

Clear and Concise Format: A well-organised and visually appealing CV will make it easier for recruiters to quickly assess your qualifications and suitability for the role.

Education and Qualifications: Provide detailed information about your educational background, including degrees, certifications, and relevant training programmes. Highlight any academic achievements or additional qualifications that are particularly relevant to the role.

Interests: While it is important to showcase your professional skills and experience, including a brief section about your interests and hobbies can help to humanise your CV and provide potential employers with insights into your personality and cultural fit.

Proofread: Thoroughly review your CV for spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors, as well as formatting inconsistencies. Attention to detail is crucial in creating a polished and professional CV that leaves a positive impression on recruiters.

By following these tips and investing time and effort into crafting a high-quality CV, you can significantly improve your chances of securing interviews and advancing your career goals.
