CV Leadership in an EV world
At Ford, we believe commercial vehicles are the backbone of the European economy. Research conducted last year by the CEBR cited the financial contribution of vans in the Eurozone as €675 billion per year. To put that into perspective, that’s more than the combined value of European football, the global gaming industry and the film industry.
Vans carry people, move goods, and perform tasks. They are an enabler of progress and an integral part of millions of businesses. And their usage is increasing. During the last few years, online shopping and a rise in self-employment have driven a boom in the number of vans on our streets. The exponential growth of e-commerce in particular was brought into sharp relief during the global pandemic, with more people than ever relying on home deliveries for essential items.
At the same time, increasingly stringent governmental legislation designed to improve urban air quality and cut carbon emissions is encouraging the switch to electric vehicles. Though there is much made of electrification in the media, there is often little mention of the electrification of vans. If the move to cut carbon emissions is to be successful – and, to be clear, it needs to be – it’s critical that the electrification of commercial vehicles and fleets happens at pace.
As Europe’s number one commercial vehicle brand, I am proud to say that tomorrow we will reveal our new E-Transit – yes, the world’s best-selling cargo van is going fully electric, and it will be supported by a powerful ecosystem of software and digital services to help fleet customers maximise their productivity. It will be just one of the many exciting electrified products in our portfolio, and I believe is a statement of intent of our ongoing commitment to an electrified future.
You can watch the launch event from 15:00 CET on November 12th: https://ford.to/ETransitLive
