Cutting the TOXIC weaklinks?
Morena,
I woke up this morning with a few thoughts and a genuine question. The question that has been through the amplified from the last weeks lack of leadership that's been shown in the biggest city of New Zealand. From the outside looking in it feels that through the Covid lockdowns, that now in 2023 words have been able to be weaponized and much more freely spread with hate and toxicity against individuals in a way that I think we never have done so before.
I then started thinking about the tension in pressure that has built-up over years navigating lockdowns and now coming out of it 3 years later the nation is now staring into high inflation, a recession, global layoffs for the big boys and now we have weather events which have brought the commercial heart of a nation to a standstill. People are PISSED.
At a macro the question I was asking myself is -?is our country actually going in the right direction??Do we have the right leadership in place that we feel comfortable to take us to a better place with a lot more positivity and unification for a nation to move it forward.
I was talking to someone recently who is done extremely well for them self (VERY well) and their macro view was basically that so much of everything in power and politics is fundamentally wrong and broken, but instead of wasting your energy and time on things you can't fix, just focus on what you can do for yourself, focus on your own little bubble and try help others along the way, in your own way.
I thought it was pretty cliche advice but the more I have got to see the way leadership roles in the way Power actually maneuveres behind-the-scenes from old friends with other old friends in high places it's become pretty clear that even though most start with the right intent to do the right thing the pure power of the magnets eventually pull people to sides which they may not even fully believe. Then it becomes a bit tricky for the average Kiwi looking out into their own nation to even wonder who they can trust and what they can even do when they feel so helpless with no true support or help around them.
But then I got my head thinking about headspace and negativity and got thinking about a small crew who I used to always hang with years ago. Anyways, after a while in their circle I realised that 80% of the conversation was ALWAYS around negativity and toxicity and basically just talking down on individuals, ideas, businesses and more. As the years past we all went out separate ways through life but I do remember thinking about how that circle of negativity was actually challenging my own headspace and would make me subconsciously focus on things that weren't positive and weren't moving my own life, or the world forward. And the key lesson that I realised was that been able to control your own circle more proactively and the energy that comes into it is extremely critical.
So in the New Year this year I deleted a bunch of people off my contacts and actually blocked a bunch of negativity on social media that was in my life. I also stop making an effort to reach out to those whose constant negativity was always trying to pull me down. At the end of the day there's only a certain amount that you can do for others before that magnet of toxicity and negativity starts to change your headspace and that is not a good thing. For you, your friend or even for your whanau.
So I guess where my headspace is that right now thinking about it as I type this, it's that take a GOOD look inside your circle and ask yourself if those that are in it are adding fuel to your fire with positivity, or putting water on the fire with negativity and sucking up oxygen and energy to places which add no value or momentum in life. And my advice would be. Cut the negativity, create a small circle of positivity, focus on what you can control, and let the Muppets stay at the circus.
Now I think the billionaire baller REALLY was onto something.?“Control what you can, help who you can, and leave the clowns to the circus”.
ps. in other POSITIVE news my good bro?Brad Prosser?landed in San Fran after a 12 hour flight from NZ last week, and I took him straight to one of the best courses in the states at TPC Harding Park for a quick 18 holes and a few beers, then dropped him straight back at the Airport 6 hours later so he could fly to Zurich for another 11 hours. haha. LOVE being able to hang with my homies - ANYWHERE in the world! If you’re rolling through - holllllleeeerrrrrrrr. haha.
