Cutting Methane Emissions: An Approach using GreenFeed, SmartFeed, and Super SmartFeed
Cuervo et al. (2025) used multiple C-Lock technologies to evaluate adding cashew nutshell extract (CNSE) to a high-grain diet to evaluate the effect on animal performance, feeding behavior, ruminal fermentation, and methane emissions.
C-Lock SmartFeed intake systems were used to measure ad libitum feed intake and feeding behavior. To guarantee delivery of the CNSE additive to each individual animal, C-Lock Super SmartFeed was used to deliver the treatment. The CNSE was mixed with a carrier, so each animal received 1.2 kg from the Super SmartFeed daily. Gases were measured continuously using GreenFeed. Steers fed CNSE had methane production reduced by 28% and ADG increased by 13.5%. Although CNSE steers had greater feed intake, methane yield (g/kg of DMI) was significantly less than control animals. Read the full article here: https://bit.ly/41xRI8F
