So you’ve finally got that $1200 phone you always wanted. A new case adorns it; you’ve even gotten some good pictures. You are walking along the street, listening to some good music when suddenly YOUR PHONE IS GONE! Two bikers pass by, taking away your phone and all the data it contained in a flash. What would you do?

Normally, you’d panic. You’d even plan out a funeral for your data. However, since you have the latest gadget that incorporates cutting-edge technologies in terms of security and privacy, you’ve got it together. Now, the question is, what can a phone company do to ensure their users don’t panic about their phones or data getting stolen??

#1 Need to Switch Off Your Phone? Enter A PIN.

Once those delinquent phone snatchers have successfully carried out their endeavours, chances are that they will switch it off. Once your phone is switched off, your location is next to untraceable. Now, imagine if the alleged thieves could not switch off your device. Your phone is still in contact with the rest of the world, and your location is still traceable by satellites.?

Seems next to impossible, right? Phone companies can easily turn this impossible fictional concept into reality! All they have to do is develop the code of your phone in a way that asks for a simple alphanumeric PIN once triggered by a shut-down order.

#2 Enter a PIN to Eject Your Sim Tray.

The second thing thieves may do to steal your phone is retract your SIM card and, most probably, destroy it. Once all connections have been cut off from your phone, it is an untraceable electronic that can be sold off. This will subsequently help the thieves keep a low profile.

What if your SIM stays in your phone unless prompted by you? As explained above, if the software and hardware were made to sync by a code, the sim tray could stay locked unless a pre-decided alphanumeric code was to be entered.?

#3 Incorrect PINs - A Mousetrap!?

It is obvious enough that the swindlers would try to jailbreak into your phone to either switch it off or eject your sim tray. The chances of them breaking through within the initial 4-5 tries are negligible. However, if these failures trigger an alert, won’t they help you??

To achieve this, software developers must develop a code that will send out an automated text along with your current live location to three contacts of your choice whenever the incorrect PIN is entered multiple times to switch off your phone or eject the SIM tray.?

#4 Automatically Erase & Save Data on Cloud

Data leaks can destroy one’s privacy and security. Phones stolen can be easily used to leak and manipulate data. Therefore, to ensure that such mishappenings do not occur, developers could use multiple incorrect PINs to trigger your phone’s system to transfer your phone’s data to your cloud. This will protect your data from theft, and you’ll be able to access your files despite losing your phone (this will be your messiah in case your wife gets her hands on your phone too!)

#5 Flashers will Flash Them!?????

IMEI numbers can’t be changed. Believe it or not, thieves are usually one step ahead of technology. Flashers can be used to change the IMEI number of your phone, following which you will not be able to trace your phone.?

If a phone’s software launches a location alert to your emergency contacts and any local police station, it will be easier to trace your phone and track the phone snatchers.

#6 NFC Keys- Your Phone’s New Safety Guard

Most phones provide users with NFC keys. Nothing outside the box, right? However, what if we turn NFC keys into a safety feature within the box? Phone companies could give out NFC keys that have been modified to an extent with every device they sell. NFC keys could include an emergency button and a keychain holder for accessibility.?

Now, you must be thinking, how will this help people who’ve had their phones stolen? It is obvious enough that the chances of being able to chase after the thieves as soon as they grab your phone are probably 5%. However, you could press the button if you have an NFC key. This could send location alerts from your phone and put your phone under a complete lockdown which can only be deactivated via that key.?
