CUTTING CORNERS (Why contemporary radio stations sound homogined).
I have learned something lately, always learning is essential. Contemporary radio stations are pretty plain sounding these days. I thought this was relegated to companies like Townsquare, where the digital and live events are so time consuming, but's it's everywhere.
Programmers have put on generic, easy to manage and program sonic sounds. Not much in the thought process but voice tracks, sweepers and some dumb sales contests. They have found a way to keep the intervention of the stations at a low priority level so they can keep up with the administrative and management function along with the constant data processing.
Did the great radio stations of all time have programmers tied to non creative functions of the radio station? Not at all.
Station sonic sounds, imaging and presentation is the most important thing you have to accomplish all day. Programmers are using card stock imaging sites, dropping in the station name or calls in cookie-cutter sweepers. Not paying attention to holiday, seasonal or feature programming bench marking, ignoring local and community events.
The biggest goal is to bring programmers along as managers. Help them realize what's important and not as important to the sound of their radio stations. The way a remote sounds on the air with interplay with the talent, customers and listeners is more important than the process of putting up the tent.
Everything is important, you don't skip on quality to reduce work load and program management of the product.

8 年So Skippy. Lose the canned, homogenized with hiring a full-time Radio staff. And putting it live on the web 24 seven with cameras in the studio. What a concept? Feed the bird.
