How time flies... some things seem to come round faster than others, for me all of a sudden 6th June is back around for what seems like the 2nd time in a year its gone so fast.
with all the mental awareness stuff of late, people are finally opening up, joining groups like Andys Man Club founded by Luke Ambler. training is offered in more and more businesses to deal with issues and mental health awareness, this is great,
for me i just wish this had been earlier, like about 3/4 years earlier, i don't know if my brother would have opened up, whether he would have joined a group, whether training where he worked before he left the job would have helped, only he would have been able to tell me, but hes not here, he committed suicide, today is the anniversary of finding him.
All i do know is that all the fantastic people out there doing all they can to get rid of the taboo, the stigma that has surrounded this issue, these people need support too, people like Luke Ambler, Josh Quiqley, Ryan Anderton, Rachel Munns, to get word out there that if you have depression, PTSD or any other mental Health issue, its fine, you aren't alone or abnormal, in fact you are probably more normal than someone who has never had a bout of depression.
Im Lucky, my boss knows i suffer from depression, he may not know how to deal with it, but hes understanding and always there if i need a chat or a rant.
Its hard to open up, i know that, but once you start, once the first step, the first few hardest words are out there, "i need help" trust me it gets easier, don't look at the bigger scary picture, take baby steps, one day at a time, one conversation at a time...
we will never eradicate depression, suicide, PTSD, but i'm positive with tenacity, care and understanding, and a little trust, we can damn well cut down on losses like my Brother.
always here if needed. miss you Bro.
