Lara shared how stressed she was at the start of her holiday. Not because of any unfinished business or an unexpected crisis with one of her clients. Instead, she was stressed because her manager had disconnected her from her emails.
In this video I want to share with you some valuable advice that could make a big difference to your time away from work.
Recently, I conducted a workshop with the leadership team of a finance company, where we discussed the email management and the importance of disconnecting from your inbox regularly during the day.?
One of the leaders, Andrew, shared a powerful tip that he had used himself, and it had a profound impact on one of his colleague's holiday experience.?
Andrew disconnected Lara’s email while she was on leave.
Initially, Lara was very anxious and worried about missing something important. However, after a few days, she was able to completely disconnect and enjoy her holiday. She came back to work feeling re-energized and refreshed.?
In today's hyper-connected world, it can be challenging to disconnect from work and fully enjoy your holiday. However, it is essential for maintaining your mental and physical health, as well as boosting your productivity when you return to work.?
Here are my three simple suggestions for making the most of your next holiday:?
Prepare: Before you go on leave, prepare, and think about who will take over your projects. Communicate to your team that you will not be checking emails and set up an out-of-office message accordingly.?
Commit: Cut the cord and commit to not checking any work emails during your holiday. ?
Don't come back on Monday: Instead of coming back to the office on Monday, work from home to do two things: catch up on emails and plan for the week ahead. This will help you start the week with a clear mind and without a backlog of emails.?
By following these three simple suggestions, you can disconnect and enjoy your holiday fully. You will come back feeling refreshed and energized, ready to tackle your work with renewed enthusiasm.
So, my question to you is this: How are you going to cut the cord during your next holiday??
