Thank you for sharing. It made me think of schools. I remember going to observe a child in a primary school who wasn’t making any progress. As I sat at the back of the class I could hear a teacher shouting. Turned out it was a shouty school and everyone shouted. The child told me they didn’t like it. I’m sure that was one of the reason behind their lack of progress. It’s easy go on a power trip when you’re nurturing young minds. Shouting at children is easy, it scares them into complying. What isn’t so easy is taking the time to build and nurture relationships built on psychological safety. I wish more schools that use shouting as a disciplinary method would try building relationships first.

I’m Interested to also know how shouting affects young athletes. As a person who grew up with football (as a player and now as a coach), I repeatedly see coaches using “shouting” as a mode of reaching to the young athletes rather than time-outs with a normal voice!!!

The children I talk who experience shouting tell me for them that’s when they know a teacher has completely lost control. They’re either distressed by it or find it hilarious ????♀? #fromthemouthofbabes

I remember us talking about this Daniel. Absolutely no place for this, but unfortunately I still hear some teachers shouting at children.
