In partnership with Ambev, GOL launched on June 27 an advertising totem with an unprecedented technology feature that prints a customer’s boarding pass on a can of soda. Until July 7, customers who embark at the Congonhas airport in S?o Paulo are able to take advantage of the gadget and take home the personalized gift.

At GOL’s invitation, we witnessed the product launch as we flew to Porto Alegre to watch Brazil vs. Paraguay for the Copa America quarterfinals. Check it out:

Flight 1216, from Congonhas to Porto Alegre, was scheduled for 4 p.m. I arrived early in the main lobby at Congonhas, in the capital of S?o Paulo, and there was my can of soda. Since that was the launch, many passengers were curious about the product and interested in receiving the gift.

Printing the Boarding Pass

I got in line and waited for my turn. A GOL employee was helping customers. The process begins with the reservation number, which requires customers to simply enter the information and confirm the check-in. After that step, the can is positioned into the machine so it can laser print the data on it.

The personalized can then features the passenger's name, seat number, flight number and departure time, as well as the QR Code (which will be scanned at the gate). In my case, the whole process took less than a minute.

Note: GOL advised customers who used the service that the cans must remain closed to go through the X-ray.

Boarding Procedure

I picked up my can and proceeded to board. When I arrived at the gate, I handed the can to a GOL employee, who scanned the QR Code, checked my name on the document and authorized my ticket, as if it were a boarding pass.

Go Brazil!

The flight to Porto Alegre was quiet and took about an hour and 10 minutes. From the airport we went to dinner and then to the Grêmio Arena to watch the game. As you know, Brazil wasted lots of chances and the game ended in 0-0. The two teams had to decide who would get a semifinal spot in a penalty shootout. To the joy of the fans who filled the stadium, Gabriel Jesus scored the last goal, leading the Sele??o to play the semifinal against Argentina.

Kudos to the beautiful Grêmio Arena, which despite the limited infrastructure surrounding it and complaints from the players about the grass, it is a magnificent stage for great spectacles.

How to use the can

The can is available for use at the Congonhas airport, in the GOL check-in area, daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., until the end of Copa America on July 7. Printing boarding passes on the can is free and even customers who have checked in at the counter or by phone can use the machine to print their can.

The service is limited to one can per customer.

So if you're flying out of Congonhas until the 7th, you can try the service. If you have already tried it, please tell us how your experience was.
