Customised Viridian Solar In Roof System
Simon Smith
Renewable energy legend/genius. All things solar, battery and heat pump. Also good at pies.
As the new Etches Collection building in Kimmeridge is completed and ready for visitors, we got the chance to go and have a look at the finished product.
This has been one of the most interesting projects we have worked on for a while. Having a planning requirement for a complete roof of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels to be installed meant there was only one choice for the job, the Viridian Solar PV30 500Wp panel.
The PV30 is usually installed as an in roof option on tiled roof systems. On this occasion the design required edge to edge and eaves to ridge to be all panels. The Viridian system is a great option for this as it is designed as a complete in roof system with the flashing system integrated into it. In Partnership with Viridian, Elliotts Premier Roofing Ltd created a flashing system to finish the sides, base drips and custom ridge detail to complete the roof.
Elliotts Premier Roofing also completed all the slate work and flat roof coverings for the rest of the building. This allowed us to manage all aspects of the roof completion, so all works around the solar PV system only required one contractor, a rather unique offering for a roofing company.
The panels are all independently connected to Solar Edge DC power optimisers and a Solar Edge SE12.5K three phase inverter.
It been a great pleasure to be involved in this project and I strongly advise a visit to the Etches ollection in Kimmeridge just as soon as you can. The fossils are great, but do look up and admire the roof works too.
