London Heathrow Airport must be ready to operate every day of the year, every year. To keep adverse weather, aircraft delays, traffic-clogged highways, public transport slow-downs, and global pandemics from disrupting its operational readiness and to identify the untapped capacity that it can use to grow sustainably, Heathrow needs an effectively managed data estate. Iberia Express entered into the competitive low-cost?airline?market in 2012 with a vision of being a major player. Less than a decade on and the company has succeeded in its mission and grown significantly – thanks in no small part to the e-commerce platform the company built on?Microsoft Azure.

The airline has now developed that architecture further and is using the latest cloud technologies to provide more personalised and immediate experiences for its customers. SAS - Scandinavian Airlines?relies on?Microsoft Azure?to lower infrastructure costs and gain agility for its development teams.

Every year, millions of travelers book flights using the Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) app. However, one missing component of its?Azure migration, was a high-availability replacement for?PostgreSQL, the popular open-source database that supports high concurrency apps. The company solved the problem—and accelerated application development—with a move to the high availability (HA) and resilience of a managed cloud database service.

Now the booking app runs in Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) backed by Azure Database for PostgreSQL - Flexible Server, freeing the app team from managing infrastructure so it can focus on innovation. Read the full story for yourself here.

Menzies Aviation?improved employee communication & engagement, particularly with their frontline workers & especially during the covid-19 pandemic with?Microsoft Teams

While office staff enjoyed all the benefits of?Microsoft 365, its frontline workers lacked a corporate digital identity – making communication difficult. SNCF Réseau, with?HoloLens2 and?Microsoft Azure can now simply visualise large-scale infrastructure projects, from anywhere, for easy and efficient decision-making.

The goal of the Grand Paris project is to create and extend tramlines, subways, and regional trains, to provide more public transport in the Ile-de-France and to improve access between suburbs, without necessarily having to go through Paris.

When under pressure to meet high performance standards for its vehicles, bus routes, and drivers,?Arriva Group, London unleashed the potential of Microsoft?Power Apps and?Microsoft?Power Automate to quickly and easily develop apps for a wide range of business processes. Now here’s something I didn’t know ….

‘Arriva London’s operation, comprises of more than 100 routes, 1,600 buses, 4,000 drivers, 400 million annual passenger journeys and every day, the mileage that our London buses cover is equivalent to going around the world six times,” Read the full story for yourself here.

A.P. Moller - Maersk?is on a journey to transform its operations using cloud-based technology with?cloud skills?at the heart of it. A key part of?A.P. Moller - Maersk?cloud strategy is to provide training for its over 80,000 employees, so that they can join the company on that journey. Working closely with?Microsoft’s Enterprise Skills Initiative (ESI) team and training partners?QA Ltd?and?Global Knowledge,?A.P. Moller - Maersk?launched the first training courses back in July 2019. The courses have attracted people from all across the company since then, creating a?culture of learning?that has increased employee retention in some of Maersk’s more?cloud-focused departments.
