Kevin West, Rosenboom’s EHS coordinator, explained, “We had a safety management program that was purchased new in 2001 and was very limited. We had only a few people that were interacting with it—me being the one major one doing it. So, all of our incident reports were done on paper and then employees would come to me to put it into the software. That’s how I tracked it. What I really wanted was to get out in front of safety incidents.”
Kevin knew where he wanted to take his safety program and the antiquated, manual process, that was highly dependent on him had to go. Not only did it not work for one of their locations, but he was responsible for multiple facilities across different states. A bottlenecked paper-based safety reporting system did not meet Rosenboom’s standard of excellence. Kevin wanted employees entering their own incidents so he could free up his time for the value-add actions of providing comprehensive safety oversight.

“I really wanted anybody in any location to report observations. I wanted them to say, ‘Hey, this is happening here and I need some help on it’ instead of forgetting about it or thinking nothing will happen if I say something,” explained Kevin. “When I watched how Sospes made collecting observations simple for everyone, that was what I really liked. The Implementation Implementing Sospes software at Rosenboom was seamless. The system configuration, set-up and training were completed and ready for production use five weeks after the initial project kick-off meeting.
“The Customer Success team Sospes sent here (for training) was fantastic,” Kevin recalled. “We kicked things off with meetings with all the supervisors. The Sospes team answered all their questions and made them see that this was not hard to implement, it wouldn’t take a lot of time—just a few minutes to document an incident or observation. Along the way, the team has been very helpful and has gotten back to me on the same day when I’ve had questions come up.”
