A Customer Service Hack

A Customer Service Hack

I often hear from others that good customer service seems to be lacking in our society. What used to be a social norm, is now the exception. Rude may even be considered by some, a free expression of "’my’ rights, so don't judge me”.

Alright, maybe I was a bit over the top with the rude thing. But what if we as the customer could change the kind of customer service we received? What if we hacked customer service with taking the lead by initiating kindness first. Yes, I'm talking about full on in-your-face deliberate acts of kindness to everyone, not just some random person. Perhaps, the more we practice kindness, the kinder others will be in return. Consider:

  • Giving a simple thank you to the barista at your local coffee shop.
  • Respecting people by using their names. Name tags are worn for a reason and those who wear them are pleasantly surprised when you address them by name.
  • Expressing the positives you’ve noted and when appropriate, reward them with a larger than normal tip.

I challenge you to practice this for a week in a “pay it forward kind of way. Be intentional with your kindness. Who knows, maybe the kinder customer will receive kinder customer service in return.
