Customer Service: Could it really be this simple?

Customer Service: Could it really be this simple?

Sometimes in life we make very simple things very difficult. I was reminded of this fact during a recent performance evaluation of a thriving employee that I work with. Since she is very humble she would like to remain confidential so I’ll honor that wish of Ashley Hitch. We were talking about her increased ability to make customers very satisfied and her focus on genuine relationships. I've been really impressed watching her grow in this area at work so I sought to better understand what makes her so good at it. She explained to me that she thought customer service was as simple as putting herself in the shoes of the person she was trying to serve and to do what she would want done if she was in their shoes. This is so simple yet so profound. There are oodles of books, workshops and ideologies about customer service and training of staff towards a level of customer service excellence. The reality is that having great customer service  is as simple as the golden rule that Ashley conveyed. Her ability to have genuine care for the individuals, a selfless notion towards them and the humility it takes to really walk in someone else's shoes was the winning formula of her amazing customer service. I'm proud to work alongside Ashley, to learn from her humble heart and to have her be part of our growing team that works with the perspective of people over profits.
