The 5 Key Customer Journey Stages…


Let’s look at the first three stages in more detail…

For the purpose of boosting your sales conversions we are just going to look at the first three stages, because these are pre-purchase stages. ?

Stage 1 - Awareness Stage

In the awareness stage customers have realized that they have a problem and a pain point to solve for.?

At this point, a customer may not yet know that they need a product or service, but they will begin doing research either way.

During this stage of the customer journey, you need to deliver educational content to help your customers better understand their problem and offer potential solutions.?

The aim is to help customers navigate their new pain point, not encourage a purchase.

Your educational content can include:

  • Leadmagnets e.g. ebooks, webinars etc
  • Social Media Posts
  • Videos
  • Free courses
  • Whitepapers

Stage 2 - Consideration Stage

In the consideration stage, customers have done enough research to realize that they need a product or service.?

At point, they begin to compare brands and their offerings.

During this stage of the customer journey, you need to product marketing to help your customers compare different offerings and know why they should choose your product/ program or service

The aim is to help customers navigate the crowded solution marketplace and move them towards a purchase

Marketing content on your product/service might include:

  • Unique Branded System
  • Video/ Written content explaining benefits of your program/service Salespage
  • Testimonials/ Case Studies?
  • Videos addressing customers objections to purchasing your offering

Stage 3 - Decision Stage

In this stage your customers have already decided which offering they are going to buy. ?

At this point you want to make sure you deliver a seamless purchase process that makes it easy and straightforward for your customers to purchase your offering. ?

You also want to make sure that if you sell from free strategy sessions to prospects that ensure those coming onto a call are as ready to buy as possible to reduce the number of strategy sessions you need to do with each prospect to make a sale. ?

Your decision stage content can include:

  • Free call/ consultation
  • Preparation for the call notes
  • Proposals

Mapping Your Customer Journey Template

Now that you know what the key stages are in the customer journey you can use the template below to map your customer journey.

By answering the questions for each stage you will be able to identify how you can better move your prospects through that stage with your content marketing.
