The Curse of the Boost Button!

The Curse of the Boost Button!

We’ve all been there, scrolling through our Facebook Business Page to then be tempted by the Big Blue Boost Post Button icon or we’ve received a message from Facebook telling us that a certain post is performing better than the others and if we boost it and spend money it will reach thousands more people. Every businesses dream!

With the decline in reach within Facebook Business Pages more people are spending money to gain more reach with their social media posts. It’s the perfect way to advertise without leaving the office. Get it right and it will work for you, get it wrong and you will just lose money.

How many of you have hit that boost button entered your card details and waited for your business to take off. It didn’t happen did it?

What many people seem to think is that by running a Facebook ad or Boost post they are going to secure new business overnight. People don’t go onto Facebook to buy something or wanting to be sold too, they are there to socialise. If we want to buy something we search through Google, Amazon or eBay.

So why bother with Facebook ads or Boost posts? They are a great way to gain a new audience and showcase your business, product or service to your audience. In many cases people will need to see your business, product or service more than a dozen times before deciding to buy, try or even get in touch. It’s all about building a trusting brand and you can do this through a this trusted Facebook feature.

I have so many people ask me what’s the difference between Boosting a post and a paid ad.

* Boost Post - This is the basic and easy version of advertising through your Facebook Business Page. Perfect for a post you already have on your business page timeline. Boosting allows you to reach a wider audience instead of those that follow or like your business page. Enabling you to target certain demographics such as gender, age and location.

* Paid Ads - This is a more advanced version of a Boost Post through your Ads Manager section. The advanced options allows you to reach more of a target audience such as those that have visited your website, app, offers or have viewed your videos

You will have others within my industry say that Boosting is a waste of time and a big NO NO. I’ve run many successful campaigns for clients by using the boost post method. It’s all about knowing what you are doing and the tricks to running a successful campaign which I cover during my Facebook Paid Ads Workshop https://2motiv8moretraining.eventbrite.co.uk/

Here are my top tips to helping you run a successful Facebook Paid Ad Campaign.

 1) Create your post. Make sure that the image doesn’t contain to much text if using one and your wording on the post is spaced out, try using emojis. Have a clear idea of what you want to promote.

 2) Don’t waffle in your post, you want people to be engaging with your post and business page.

 3) Decide if you are going to use the Boost Post or Ad’s Manager method.

 4) Pick a budget that you want to spend on your campaign. You need to spend a minimum of £1 per day but also he mindful of sticking with a budget.

 5) Decide how long your campaign will run for. Do not run your add for too long, a week can work well. The longer the ad runs the least interaction you will get.

 6) Choose your target audience. Don’t be afraid to experiment as each time you run a campaign you will get closer to finding your ideal audience to target to for future campaigns.

 7) Be sure to interact with any comments from your audience. Tagging people in those replies and messaging them obtaining information possibly for your mailing list.

 8) Don’t forget keep it simple and have fun.
