Current tries to go to the ground! Current takes the path of least resistance! No, it is FALSE! Electrical myths are dangerous.
One of the Achilles heels of power engineering is electrical myths, partially true statements, misleading statements, and incomplete statements.
I hate, dislike, and despise those statements. They are dangerous.
Some believe such statements; They give us a false sense that we understand what we do. However, 20% of the time, we will get in trouble.
If a statement is not always true, it is not valid (there are rare exceptions).
Please take a look at the long list of misleading, incomplete, and inaccurate statements below. You can find them in some books, on Google, and on YouTube.
1- Current tries to go to ground
Please take a look at the screenshot below of a Google page.
2- Current takes the path of least resistance
Take a look at the google results below
3- A 100A rated low voltage breaker is designed to trip if the current goes above 100A.
4- A differential relay is faster than an overcurrent relay
5- A transformer high voltage is the primary side of the transformer.
6- Grounding rod in electrical systems makes an individual safer
7- reducing the fault current will reduce the arc flash calories

8- A 3 phase fault is the worst condition on a system
9- We ground a system to remove a ground fault
10- We ground a system to protect personel from being electrocuted durin a ground fault
Many more statements.
We need to debunk myths, and in some cases, we need to complete partially factual statements.
We will address each myth in the upcoming articles as well as discuss SEL events and power studies.
